About This Project

ALIVE – Accidents involving lorries and cyclists – Evaluation of the avoidance potential of different assistance systems -.

The risk of being killed as a cyclist in an accident with a truck is thirteen times higher than in accidents with other road users.  Around five cyclists are killed in such accidents every year. Assistance systems, e.g. turning assistants, can contribute to increasing road safety. However, their effectiveness has not yet been studied in detail. This is being done within the framework of ALIVE. The research team is investigating the effectiveness and acceptance of truck assistance systems with regard to accidents involving cyclists. To what extent accidents between cyclists and trucks can be avoided is a central research question.
