Green light for bikers in Goldschlagstraße

Goldschlagstraße in Vienna 14th district Penzing will soon be completely bicycle-friendly. Cyclists will soon ride undisturbed and carefree from the Sargfabrik, deep in the 14th, to the Gürtel, which is around 3.5km.

Raised crossing plateaus, in parts a cycle lane in the opposite direction, partly blockage for through traffic – all measures that were used during the renovation.

Most of the sections of Goldschlagstrasse have long been bicycle-friendly and for this reason the road was recognized by the Vienna Radlobby in 2016 as the best bicycle-friendly redesigned inner-city street in Vienna. It is only shorter parts that are missing between Reinlgasse and Beckmanngasse, Beckmanngasse and Sturzgasse and the area around Reinlpark. The plans should be ready by summer 2021. MA28 Road Construction and MA42 City Gardens are involved in the planning. Since the planned costs are justifiable and only fewer parking spaces will be lost, this SPÖ-initiated project is also approved by other political parties in the district (ÖVP, Greens, Neos and, with minor objections, the FPÖ also agreed).

After completion, Goldschlagstrasse will offer more safety for cyclists, contribute to calming traffic in the district and promote the attractiveness of cycling.
