Migration and digitisation

In Austria, no jobs appear to have been lost as a result of digitization. According to a survey by the economic research institute Wifo, there is no statistically negative correlation between the number of employees and the degree of digitization. Rural regions also benefit from the expansion of the digital infrastructure. For example, employment has increased in those communities with high transmission speeds. However, the promotion of broadband expansion alone will not prevent migration. For the employable population to remain in the community, it needs a functioning local supply, public transport connections, kindergartens etc. as well as a digital infrastructure.
