FULLY FUNDED CYCLING INFRASTRUCTURE

In 2020, the Austrian federal government is promoting the cycling infrastructure that enables municipalities and businesses to receive full 100% funding for the construction of cycle paths. There are 3 federal subsidies that can be combined, plus numerous state subsidies and also the EU subsidy EAFRD (subsidy for rural areas), which is intended for communities with fewer than 30,000 inhabitants. Also for 2021, € 40 million will be invested in the expansion and improvement of cycling and climate-friendly mobility by means of the Klimaaktiv mobil program – mobility management and cycling. The construction of rapid cycle connections is subsidized with up to 50% of the costs. This includes costs for the system as well as for planning and construction. A community package has been designed to support these investments. In July 2020, a federal act came into force that supports municipal investments with one billion euros. Municipalities have the chance to receive up to 50% funding for the construction, renovation and maintenance of cycle and footpaths. This results in the full funding effect mentioned at the beginning: klimaaktiv funding from the federal government for cycle expressways combined with KIP (municipal investment program) can result in up to 100% funding!
